Mrs. Kay started teaching at Potosi High School in 2000, which means she has taught here for 21 years. She has graduated from UMSL. She enjoys running, cooking, reading, and spending time with her husband and 4 children.

Classes:

Composition II:

This is a required course, designed for all sophomores, that builds on skills learned in Composition I.  Writing units focus on paragraph and essay development, while also addressing issues in usage and mechanics.  Reading units focus on world literature.

Composition III:

This is a required course, designed for all juniors, to build on skills learned in Composition II.  Writing units focus on the four modes of writing and include a formal research project.  Usage, mechanics, rhetorical skills, and vocabulary strategies are also reviews. Reading units focus on American literature.

ACT Prep:

ACT Prep is a class for all college-bound students seeking to improve their ACT scores and earn a College Prep Certificate. In this course students will learn test-taking strategies, review key concepts in the areas of English, math, reading, and science, and explore scholarship opportunities. Emphasis will be placed on test-taking practice and improving ACT composite scores. Co-teachers in English and math teach this class.

Mass Media:

In this course, students will produce the yearbook as the official record for Potosi High School and a scheduled submission to the local newspaper in the form of the Purple Press.  Students will produce both products by working on graphic design, teamwork, responsibility, content, headlines, reporting, writing, editing and photography.
