Mrs. Long teaches Ag Science 1&2, Greenhouse, Landscaping, Fish and Wildlife, and Ag. Sales. She attended Farmington for school where she played varsity softball all 4 years. She graduated from SEMO in December of 2016 with her Bachelors in AgEd.

Classes:

Agricultural Science I-

The course includes the following aspects of animal science: anatomies of livestock and poultry animals, the importance of maintaining the nutritional needs of animals, the economic importance of livestock, and the careers in the livestock industry.
This course also includes the following aspects of tool and shop safety: tool safety and the demonstration of the safe use of tools, FFA history and tradition. This course requires that students become members of the FFA and complete an SAE project.

Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP) includes record book keeping that will be taught in class. All students are required to have an SAEP for the course. This course requires a minimum of four SAE visits. SAE visits will be where the student’s SAE project is physically located. The SAE project visits are graded events.

Agricultural Science II

This course includes the following aspects of agricultural science: an introduction to plant science, entomology, and forestry. Additional instruction will be conducted in agricultural shop, and career and leadership development.

Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP) includes record book keeping that will be taught in class. All students are required to have an SAEP for the course. This course requires a minimum of four SAE visits. SAE visits will be where the student’s SAE project is physically located. The SAE project visits are graded events.

Landscape-

This course includes the basic techniques of landscape design, landscape construction, installation, and maintenance, and a study of soils and fertilizers for sod production. Also included are the skills needed for the establishment and maintenance of turf.

Greenhouse Operation and Management-

This course develops a basic understanding of greenhouse techniques, history of greenhouses, insect damage identification, plant disease identification, production of greenhouse crops (annuals, perennials, and vegetables), plant propagations (cutting, seeds, and division), and greenhouse environmental control. A lot of time will be spent outside landscaping gardens, in the outdoor classroom, and with some community development.

Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP) includes record book keeping that will be taught in class. In addition, completing proficiency award or state degree are integrated into this course. All students are required to have an SAEP for the course. This course also requires two SAE visits. SAE visits will be where the student’s SAE project is physically located. SAE project visits are graded events.

Agriculture Sales-

Agriculture Business Sales, Marketing, and Management is a study of human relations, personal inventory, careers in selling, and other experiences necessary for employment in agribusiness engaged in marketing, purchasing and storing, grading, and transporting supplies and products. Basic principles of supply and demand of agricultural products are explored to help understand why product prices are lowered or raised. Students will demonstrate how to use the computer to research agricultural business and agricultural products both in the United States and international markets. Career opportunities in agricultural business are explored, and at least one filed trip is taken to an area agricultural business.

Leadership activities in FFA, Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP) to include record bookkeeping, and completing applications for SAE Career Grants, proficiency awards, and FFA State Degree will be integrated into this course.
