Mrs. Darling

Mrs. Darling has taught at Potosi High School for 18 years. After she graduated from PHS she attended Mineral Area College, and Southeast Missouri State University, where she obtained her teaching certification. Before returning to her home town she taught at Dixon R-1 and Valley R-6. She has taught at PHS since 1996! She and her husband Ed have been married since 1985 and she has two sons, Jesse and Jacob. Jesse is a PHS graduate, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Jesse and his wife Katie currently reside in Columbia. Jacob  received his Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology and he is still working on his Masters in the same field.

 

Classes:

Biology-

Biology is a full year class in which a variety of instructional approaches will be used in order to provide students with opportunities for gaining factual knowledge and applying skills. Students will develop the ability to connect biological concepts, build higher-level skills, and develop their own viewpoint of the world around them. Content will focus on information and skills for the biology end-of-course exam.

The students will not only be introduced to major themes of modern biology, but will also be introduced to a critical thinking skills and process skills through laboratory investigations. The student will acquire a clear understanding of biological concepts, develop an awareness of relevance of biology as an integral part of their everyday lives, and develop an appreciation of and interest in biology and all other sciences.

 

Physiology-

Physiology is a full year course in which a variety of instructional approaches will be used in order to provide students with opportunities for gaining factual knowledge about the human body’s structure and function. Due to physiology being a weighted class, emphasis will be placed on test scores and individual effort. Curriculum does include dissection. This course is strongly recommended for any student interested in health related professions.

Physiology deals with the fundamental concepts in anatomy and physiology. The course is designed to help meet the individual needs of students preparing for higher education, to study an area of biological interest, or enter a health-related field or profession. The course also covers information relevant to the health and well being of the students and the community in which they live.
